Blogging : don’t write just to write something
July 12th, 2008Most of us bloggers have a “writing routine” to ensure new content everyday. There is absolutely no problems with that approach and it’s in fact a really good thing to have a writing routine. The problem is that most bloggers do it to keep the readers happy and feed them with new articles at least once a day. My piece of advice with that is: Don’t write just to write something.
There are some days you’ll feel like you have nothing to write about and it’s totally normal. These days usually end up with a crappy post because of that evil daily writing routine. You will loose more readers by writting crappy articles than you’ll loose by skipping a day. Your readers will get used to your posting habits and if you decide to write a quality article every two days instead of average articles every day, you will get more readers and traffic in the long term.
Always go for quality over quantity, in the long term it pays off. If you can write a quality article everyday then that’s great, but don’t feel bad to skip a day.

So many bloggers just write crap that I call filler post and don’t really provide any good content. Content will always be king and and good seo company would know that. With the exception of http://www.uberseocompany.com
They seem to write quality jokes only.
The website you pointed out is actually quite funny!
But yes, content is extremely important! I wrote some filler posts in the past and I always felt a little guilty because I knew it was total crap. Anyway, it’s the kind of things I don’t do anymore and prefer to skip a day!
Like uberseocompany.com told me , I’m only here for the link
Actually I’m here because Ben hijacked me 60 seconds after subscribing to MyBlogLog. It was the fastest I’m ever been rick-rolled to a site and I am fascinated to learn how he does it.
One meaningful bit of commentary: linking to popular YouTube videos DOES boost your Google ranking. Check out the (humorous) one I did for a friend in the commercial mailbox/mailbox security space.
Mail me if you want details.
Hey thanks for your comment and sorry for that “hijack” thing
You just subscribed while I was online, so why not make a new friend?
Can you elaborate a bit on your YouTube video technique?
You have a quality blog. I must appoint as my teacher. This, inspite of the fact that I am a teacher. I used to call myself as a blogging teacher. I have developed 5 blogs or more, but I don’t think that they the quality as yours do. I don’t earn money either from blogging. Do you? This is one think that I need to learn as I have spent more and more money to fulfill my blogging spirit.
Thanks, I really appreciate your positive comment! I do earn money from blogging and I consider myself lucky to be able to do so as it’s really a nice way of making money!
[...] experience. I try to write quality, not quantity and I’ve talked about it in a previous post: Don’t write just to write something. I also try to let people know about my new blog posts and I give my them the time to live. This [...]
This is an argument for the usefulness of Twitter. If you run the feed or widget in the sidebar, it’ll at least give the appearance of an update without tainting the quality of site.
