It is all real
June 30th, 2009
It’s so easy to take everything for granted.
I learned today, like most people on twitter, that my friend Meg Porter (@megapixel on twitter) was killed in a car accident last week. She was only 24 : my age. This is a weird feeling as I never met Meg in real life, but we definitely built a friendship online. Social media is all about people and while it is 99% fun, this reminds us that it is not a game: it is all real.
Meg was awesome and there was no reasons for her to go, but it happened. She will be missed.
I offer my deepest sympathies to her family.

Oh my god. I am very sorry to hear about this and my heart goes out to you, her family and friends.
I can understand that connection we have with our online only friends. When I don't hear from them either though their blog or social networking, I get concerned and inquire about them. Its not much different than my (IRL) neighbors, friends or co-workers.
Ohh man, May God bless him. You are right social media is all about to meet new peoples and build new relationship with them. Some time you met those people who you dont even know. And they really makes change in your life and they become most important person.
these photos are nice
Thank you Carla, I appreciate the comment!
Oh that's terrible..its so sad that if you have someone that are getting closer with you will die unexpectedly even thought that you just meet them online but the thing is the friendship that you both build.
My deep sympathy to your friend and her family Ben..
Thank you Gilbert!
For you Ben death leaves a heartache no one can heal and love leaves a memory no one can steal…

Oh my gosh that’s really unacceptable.
I have one friend who was killed also in the car bombing that was 11 years ago and that was really one of my most tragic experience.
I am so sorry to hear about that Mr. Benoit, I could feel what you felt
Our friends could be consider as our greatest treasure even if we only met them online or in any field.
Oh, horrible story for you. I mean, losing a close friend is tragic!
Thank you for your comment Cassandra, I really appreciate it!
Ben.
I connected with her in some tweets in May. She had planned to go to Miami and I was going to connect her with some nice guys to show her around town.(Her trip was later canceled) I am in my 40's..have dealt with near death…but I was given a second chance..
I have thought about her alot and how strange life is when it is cut short at such a young age. It deeply saddened me..especially since she was such a bubbly and full of life beautie.
Very sorry to hear about your friend. Stay strong
My condolences to her family and loved ones. Sometimes friendships that are build online have stronger connection. Maybe because we share the same points of view when t comes to our work and ideas.
Wow, I am deeply saddened to hear of this
It is always scary to hear of when someone dies in an auto accident, just reminds us that life is precious and can be taken away from us at any second. =(
Till then,
Jean
That's why you should treat every day as a new opportunity and always keep in mind that today could be your final day and you wouldn't want to have wasted it.
I am sorry to hear this happen, and especially she was so young. Very tragic, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and her family.
