Microsoft says: Google killed my business

I want to share with you guys the funniest search keywords I’ve seen in a while. Last week, I was checking my stats on StatCounter during the day and I noticed this particularly funny piece of stat:

kumo1

Google killed my businessLet’s do a quick breakdown of this search.

First of all, it’s a search for the keywords “Google killed my business“, from kumo.com. You guys will ask, what the hell is kumo.com? Kumo is actually a new version of Microsoft’s search service, only available internaly at the moment. If you try to reach kumo.com, you will be greeted with a blank page. At the moment, Microsoft is redirecting internal live.com traffic over to kumo.com to test the site.

The user’s IP address is also a Microsoft Corp IP address from Redmond, which confirm it’s coming from Microsoft. On top of that, the search was done on Windows 7 & Internet explorer 8. Any more doubts this search comes from Microsoft’s office in Redmond?

Google killed my business

Why would an employee search for “Google killed my business”? That I don’t know and there’s probably a thousand different reasons why someone would search for something like that, but coming from Microsoft, it’s particularly funny. Could this be an employee thinking Google killed Microsoft or could this be an employee searching for examples of businesses that got hurt by Google’s business model? We’ll probably never know, but I like to think it’s the first option. ;)

Your searches are tracked

To me, this is just one more example that a lot of things you do and a lot of things your employees do online is tracked. Some of this information can seriously hurt your business if you’re not careful and it is particularly important to educate employees that whatever they do while on the company’s network can hurt the business in many ways.

Your thoughts

Again, share your thoughts, it’s always appreciated and I really want to hear what you guys think of this.

this is really funny…. wat ben says is true and a factor to be considered for securing our business..

Maybe someone was searching that term to see if anyone else has suffered in online sales and business from Google and its algorithms…

I can imagine Google has started and finished a lot of web and online sales! Maybe Microsoft is looking at potential marketing strategies for their new web search. If Google has done wrong by many businesses maybe Microsoft will launch a platform that will index only a business and not a personal website! That would be pretty nice because sometimes I can find anything I’m looking for online due to the mass collection of junk Google indexes!

hehe, well there are probably a thousand different good reasons why an employee would search for this. In fact I'm pretty sure there is a very good explanation behind this, but still very funny.

haha, that is funny! Maybe microsoft is really running scared?

  4. HI Ben,

If they are not scare then it must be they are looking for people real pissed at Google (they may be hard to find, lol), and they like to offer them a solution to destroy Google or at least make them think twice when they slap us again.

Ok, OK, I was dreaming awake, lol.

But would not be nice that "G" had a little of competition so they cannot take decisions without thinking what will happen to us?

BTW, Seems like a new theme. I guess it is. Looks cool and clean.

I agree with you that a bit of competition to Google would be extremely welcomed. It would change their dominant position and I think would be refreshing for the whole Web industry.

Yep, it's a new theme, thanks for the comment!

  5. But in fact when you search "Google killed my business" there are 8,720,000 google search. That's weird!lol…

This was indeed a very interesting read. To be honest, it wouldnt suprise me if the number of business's google had ruined to be even in the millions. Self employed people making money by using SEO techniques get stomped on by google everyday. The fact this search came from Microsoft is quite amusing. Google + Tesco = World Domination, Reminds me of an oldskool game called Syndicate Wars ^^

Really a nice case to laugh at.

  11. That's funny!probably he can't think of any keywords and coincidentally google banned his account.

  13. i do agree google has become so powerful through the years one day they'll be big brother

  14. Roxanne says:

Silly.. How could that happen? is it possible? I think, yes. When Google rejected your online business. You're out. I guess.

Qu'en pensez-vous?
